On September 5, 2025, Cook County Circuit Court Judge Patrick T. Stanton approved a Consent Decree that settled a consumer fraud lawsuit brought by the Illinois Attorney General against Clearview Electric, Inc. d/b/a Clearview Energy (“Clearview Energy”). The lawsuit alleged that Clearview Energy, an alternative retail electric supplier, engaged in unfair and deceptive sales and marketing practices and deceived Illinois consumers into switching from their public utility companies to more expensive contracts with Clearview Energy. The settlement requires Clearview Energy to pay $8.4 million and permanently bans Clearview from marketing and selling electricity and gas in Illinois. A copy of the Consent Decree may be accessed here. A copy of the Illinois Attorney General’s press release is available here.
