On January 10, 2019, the Office of the Illinois Attorney General issued a press release announcing the recovery of $135 million for the state of Illinois through a settlement with Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. that resolves allegations the drug company inflated the wholesale prices used in setting the rates for Medicaid reimbursements to Illinois pharmacies. The settlement stems from a 2005 lawsuit filed against 47 drug makers for deceptive practices related to the Average Wholesale Price (AWP) of numerous prescription drugs. The press release also announced that the state of Illinois has recovered through this lawsuit more than $436 million from drug companies alleged to have engaged in such conduct.
