The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois recently announced a settlement with Brynwood Myofascial Therapy LLC, a skilled therapy provider based out of Rockford, Illinois. The current and former owner have agreed to pay $1.5 million to settle civil allegations of violating the False Claims Act. The allegations included falsely submitting Medicare claims for physical and occupational therapy services that were either not provided as claimed or were inappropriately billed. The settlement resolves a lawsuit filed by a whistleblower under the False Claims Act, which allows private citizens to sue on behalf of the U.S. government and share in any financial recovery. The relator was represented by Steven Schneck of the Steven Schneck Law Firm and Deanna Pihos from Miner, Barnhill & Galland, P.C. The settlement was reached without a determination of liability.
