Miner, Barnhill & Galland attorneys Paul Balik and colleagues were proud to represent Lake View Lutheran Church, an over-hundred-fifty-year-old congregation, in the development of Lakeview Landing, a 37-unit affordable housing project that is now being built in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood.
Lakeview Landing is the result of the church’s partnership with Over the Rainbow Association (OTR), a local non-profit developer, to convert Lake View Lutheran’s church site into new affordable housing in furtherance of the church’s charitable mission. The church worked hand-in-hand with OTR for years to develop the community support, zoning approvals, and financing to turn this project into reality. Lake View Lutheran donated its church site to Over the Rainbow, which generated Illinois Affordable Housing Tax Credits that provided the economic foundation for the church to enter into this deal. The church will also maintain a small office space in the building once completed. Closing on this transaction occurred, and construction began, at the end of April 2024. MBG congratulates Lake View Lutheran Church and OTR on this partnership to generate more low-income housing on Chicago’s North Side.
