With more than 20 years of experience in complex litigation, Scott Entin possesses a keen understanding of efficiently handling large-scale, intricate, high-stakes legal matters that cover a wide range of issues.  Scott joined Miner, Barnhill & Galland in 2005 and has distinguished himself as a partner who is adept at building complex cases from the ground up and seeing them through to trial.  A member of a toxic tort trial team that secured an Illinois record $363 million verdict, Scott thrives in high-stakes litigation.  Scott has represented individuals, classes of individuals, advocacy groups, businesses and sovereign government entities in matters involving environmental contamination and protection, toxic exposure, fraud and consumer protection, employment discrimination and civil rights violations. No matter the client, Scott  takes an approach marked by active engagement and collaboration in order to seek effective solutions to his clients’ legal challenges.

  • Environmental Litigation

Scott has dedicated a significant portion of his practice to the protection of individuals and their property from the adverse effects of pollution. Scott was appointed as co-lead class counsel, representing a class of residents in Muscatine, Iowa, in a case addressing air emissions from an industrial polluter. His representation led to a $51.5 million settlement, benefiting class members financially and compelling the defendant to invest millions in upgrading pollution controls. He has also worked with the Sierra Club as trial counsel in Clean Air Act litigation and counseled individuals and advocacy groups dealing with air and water contamination issues. Most recently, Scott represented a number of individual plaintiffs suing a medical sterilization company for harm caused by dangerous air emissions that led to settlements of hundreds of millions of dollars, and was a key member of the trial team that secured a record-breaking $363 million verdict.  This was the highest single-plaintiff verdict in Illinois history.  Scott is currently representing a certified class of over 123,000 residents in a property rights lawsuit against a major steel manufacturer.

  • State Government Representation

For over a decade, Scott served as legal counsel for eight states in the Average Wholesale Price (“AWP”) litigation and its related cases against numerous drug manufacturers and entities, navigating issues under consumer protection laws, Medicaid fraud, false advertising statutes, and state false claims acts. This legal action aimed to address the harm inflicted on state Medicaid programs due to the dissemination of inaccurate and deceptive drug prices. Scott actively participated in all facets of the AWP litigation, from discovery proceedings to trials, collaborating closely with state clients and witnesses. In conjunction with the broader MBG team, Scott’s dedicated efforts culminated in settlements and judgments totaling nearly $1.2 billion.  Currently, Scott is a part of legal teams representing different government clients in litigation focused on holding the chemical manufacturing industry responsible for contamination and natural resource damage and depletion.

  • Civil Rights & Employment Litigation

Scott serves as legal counsel for both plaintiffs and defendants involved in discrimination cases and employment disputes, encompassing national class actions and individual cases brought before state, local, and federal agencies. His representation extends to individuals and groups encountering issues related to discrimination in the workplace based on factors such as race, national origin, sex, age, and disability. Scott has also provided legal representation in wage, hour, and overtime disputes, as well as matters pertaining to severance, employee benefits, non-compete and non-solicitation agreements.

  • Healthcare Litigation

Since the beginning of his professional career, Scott has worked with hospitals and physician clients on a variety of healthcare law topics. He has extensive and successful jury trial experience in these cases, and has advised hospital clients on affiliation and disaffiliation issues, third-party payor litigation and other medicolegal claims.
