Over nearly 50 years of practice, Jeff Gilbert has litigated hundreds of cases and advised clients in many more. For fifteen years, he was at the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago (now, Chicago Legal Aid) where he represented low-income Chicagoans, primarily as supervisor of employment litigation. In that work, Jeff represented plaintiffs in numerous class actions in federal court and individuals in appeals in both federal and state court concerning employment issues, particularly the provision of unemployment insurance in Illinois. In 1994, Jeff became a partner at Johnson, Jones, Snelling, Gilbert & Davis, where he represented individuals, unions, corporations and governmental entities in various areas including constitutional law, employment, and housing. He has litigated hundreds of cases in courts, arbitrations and administrative agencies. He also serves as an arbitrator in litigated matters. Jeff became “of counsel” to Miner, Barnhill & Galland in 2025.
Jeff’s areas of practice include employment, housing, public benefits, governmental issues, and service as a neutral.
Jeff was President of the Chicago Council of Lawyers from 1988-1990 and served in other capacities in that organization including head of state judicial evaluations. Jeff also served on the board of Morgan Park Academy in Chicago for eleven years including three as Board president.
