Miner, Barnhill, & Galland has an extensive practice representing hospitals, clinics, physicians, and attorneys in a broad range of complex matters. This practice group is led by George Galland and includes Jeffrey Cummings . The group's expertise includes the following areas:

Medical malpractice defense. The firm defends major Chicago hospitals, clinics, and physicians in large-scale medical malpractice lawsuits. Mr.Galland and his partners and associates have served as trial and appellate counsel in litigation involving almost all major medical specialties, including internal medicine, general surgery, otolaryngology, psychiatry, psychology, neurosurgery, pulmonology, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, oncology, and obstetrics and gynecology. For the past 10 years the firm has been a leading outside counsel to Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center and to physicians insured by Rush's self-insurance program. The firm has represented and continues to represent other large hospitals and clinics as well.

Other health-law litigation. The firm has acquired broad experience in a wide range of issues facing hospitals and clinics. It has extensive experience in disputes involving revocation or restriction of physicians' staff privileges. It has represented hospitals, hospital officials, and hospital physicians in defamation litigation. The firm serves as principal outside counsel to Rush Medical College and as such has represented the College in Lawsuits and administrative proceedings brought by medical students and residents who have been disciplined or expelled from medical school or postgraduate training, as well as in proceedings brought by faculty members. The firm has consulted with health care clients on numerous issues of internal governance and government regulation and investigation.

Insurance disputes. As the representative of a number of self-insuring health-care institutions, the firm has developed expertise in insurance litigation, including disputes over primary coverage obligations to persons covered by these institutions' self-insurance programs; disputes with excess insurers; declaratory judgment actions over coverage; disputes over managed-care benefits and coverage, including ERISA litigation; and related problems.

Employment and tenure issues in hospitals. Combining the firm's long-standing expertise in employment disputes with its expertise in health law, it has provided a broad range of representation to hospitals in connection with employment disputes. This representation includes defense of employment lawsuits, defense of claims involving claimed rights of medical school faculty; and counseling of clients in connection with internal grievance procedures for faculty and students.

Representation of attorneys and law firms. The firm has substantial experience in attorney malpractice actions; disciplinary proceedings before the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission; litigation involving attorneys' fees; and defamation litigation.
